Dear Parents and Guardians:

The Sandshore Home and School Partnership (SHSP) is proud to offer your student the opportunity to be a part of the 2nd Annual Sandshore School Science Fair! The science fair is open to students of Sandshore School from grades Kindergarten through 5th grade. The Science Fair will be held in the  Sandshore School gym on Saturday, March 10th, 2012 from 9 AM -12 PM with a drop off and mandatory check-in Friday, March 9th from 5-8 PM. All rules, guidelines and the mandatory summary sheet will be posted on the SHSP website under the Science Fair Section.  For the students, participating in a science fair means that they have the chance to explore the world of science on their own, choosing a topic that interests them and taking it in any direction they want.  It's really one of the most inspiring ways to learn.

We would like to invite you to work along with your student as he or she selects, investigates, and reports on an appropriate area of science. With your interest and encouragement, your student can develop the skills and attitudes he or she needs to make this project a valuable experience. Please note that this optional. All work will be done at home by the student. Parents are encouraged to offer emotional support and reminders, but to allow the children to do the projects by themselves. The project topics and experiments should be age appropriate and chosen by the student. We encourage you to visit the Science Fair Section of the SHSP website for valuable information. You will find and have access to download additional forms such as registration, summary sheets, rules and checklists. In addition, there is also information listed for science fair resources and judging guidelines.

Remember that your student's real success in our science fair will not be measured by ribbons, trophies, or certificates. Your student will succeed by learning and understanding more about science and how scientists work. Awards are secondary. The real goal of the science fair is stimulating your student's curiosity about the world.

We look forward to your participation in our upcoming science fair. Please make sure your student’s project receives approval from the Science Fair Committee before starting any work. Email sandshoresciencefair@gmail.com with any questions. Let's work together so that our science fair will be a memorable and pleasant experience for your student.

Sincerely,

The SHSP Science Fair Committee
